International Honours For Newcastle Swimmers
Friday, 23 April 2010 18:23
Everyone at Newcastle ASC would like to congratulate Rachael Kelly and Dave Gregory on their selection to the Great Britain team for this summer's European Junior Swimming Championships in Helsinki in July. Both have qualified off the back of their tremendous performances at the recent British Championships in Sheffield.
16 year-old Rachael set a stunning new PB of 59.86 in the semi-final of the 100 Fly and was only a fraction outside of claiming a senior British medal. Dave (17) claimed his first ever senior national Championship medal when he claimed the bronze medal in the 50 Backstroke!
In the recent WISE Schools international event in Glasgow 13 year-old Jack Smith was picked to represent England, against Wales, Ireland and Scotland, and managed to win all three of his races.
It is excellent to see three of Newcastle's swimmers doing so well on a national level and we'll all be cheering on both Rachael and Dave during the summer when they represent Great Britain!

Swimmers and parents enjoyed a good weekend of swimming at Sheffield in March. 12 swimmers attended the City of Sheffield Premier, level 1 Open meet. Coach Adam Taylor, took a squad of swimmers to this meet.
Noteable swims came from Rebecca Twardochleb, gaining her second Regional Age Group qt in the 100 Breaststroke, alongside her 200 Breaststroke Regional qt gained at Counties, Becky also swam excellent pbs in the 50 and 100 Fly .
Liam OMahony had an fantastic weekend at Sheffield and gained his first Regional Yths qualifying time in the 50 Freestyle and, just missing out on his 100 Freestyle qualifying time by a fraction, he also swam pbs in all his other events he now joins Ben Osbourne as another first time qualifier for Regional Yth Champs, Ben gained his 100 Freestyle qt earlier in the year, he was also seeking his 50m Freestyle qt at Sheffield, but had to withdraw at the last minute just before his event, due to a sickness bug !
Other swimmers at the Premier Sheffield meet included Alex Gough, Will Robinson, Louise Edge, Ashley Tweats, Sam Winton, Addison Brown, Adam Taylor, Emily Shaw, Ben Osbourne Megan Ashley. Good long course pbs for some and a good indicator level for others .
